Building height, setbacks, parking, fire-safety provisions and other local requirements can affect what is permitted. These constraints should be understood before detailed design and construction commitments are made.
The existing building must remain usable and safe
If occupants remain in the property during work, access, temporary protection, noise, dust, water and electricity interruptions need careful planning. Construction phasing can be just as important as the final design.
Services may need upgrading
Additional floors increase demand on electrical systems, water storage, pumping, drainage and sometimes vertical circulation. Existing services should be checked rather than simply extended without capacity review.
Facade and interior renovation can be coordinated together
An extension often changes the proportions and appearance of the whole building. This can be an opportunity to rationalise the facade, improve weather protection and update interior circulation at the same time.
Use a coordinated execution plan
Structural work, waterproofing, service extensions, external works and interior finishing should follow a clear sequence. This reduces rework and helps protect the existing parts of the building.
