There is no single interior design cost that applies to every home. The final budget depends on the scope of work, material choices, custom carpentry, services, site conditions and the level of detailing expected from the finished space.
Start with scope, not a square-foot number
A useful budget begins with a clear scope. A basic furnishing package, a full turnkey interior, and a renovation with civil and MEP changes are very different projects. Before comparing quotations, identify what is actually included: design, drawings, carpentry, false ceiling, electrical work, plumbing, painting, loose furniture, appliances and site supervision.
Material selection changes the budget quickly
Boards, laminates, veneers, hardware, stone, tiles, lighting and sanitary fittings can create a wide cost range even when the layout is unchanged. It is usually better to define a sensible specification level for each space than to choose materials independently without seeing the effect on the overall project budget.
Custom carpentry is often a major cost component
Kitchens, wardrobes, TV units, study areas, storage and decorative wall features can account for a significant part of a home interior. Their cost depends on internal material, finish, hardware, dimensions, accessories and the amount of custom detailing.
MEP coordination matters before execution
Electrical points, air-conditioning, plumbing, lighting controls and appliance locations should be coordinated before ceilings and fixed furniture are completed. Late changes create rework and can increase both cost and project duration.
Site conditions and renovation work add variables
Existing homes may require demolition, waterproofing repairs, floor corrections, rewiring or plumbing modifications. These conditions are not always visible at the quotation stage, which is why renovation budgets should include a reasonable contingency.
